Predicting the mass of biggest cluster galaxies (BCG) from brightness and shape metrics

Biggest Cluster Galaxies (BCGs) are important objects in cosmology due to their ability to distort spacetime and affect observations of all galaxies surrounding them. Finding a relationship between the brightness and shape metrics of the BCGs and its mass would allow us to skip intensive computations previously used to determine BCG masses.

This project was completed for 36-290 Introduction to Statistical Research Methodology. A full data analysis report was assembled and several statistical learning models were applied to the data. Additionally, a group poster was created.
